System Protection Group provides education support for protective relaying to utility, industrial, and consulting engineers, onsite at your facility or online. Training is based on more than 30 years of setting, testing, and analyzing relay systems in the field.

What we offer

Onsite training

Instructor-led courses at your office or plant, tailored to your system, your relays, and your engineers’ experience level.

Online training

Live virtual sessions for teams spread across multiple locations, with the same content and discussion as an in-person class.

Protection and analysis

Subject-matter support on relay settings, protection philosophy, coordination studies, and event and misoperation analysis.

Who teaches the courses

Courses are taught by Russell W. Patterson, Ph.D., P.E., former manager of System Protection and Analysis at the Tennessee Valley Authority and past chairman of the IEEE Power System Relaying and Control Committee. He currently teaches protective relaying for industry and at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
